Banff was the first place we went when we were in the Canadian Rockies. We chosen to go to Suplhur Mountain because I could hike a mountain while my girlfriend could go up the same mountain by gondolas, for a not so cheap $50. Anyway, that was the plan! The trail is really easy to follow, it’s like a huge sidewalk with a lot of switchbacks bellow the gondolas! Some finds this trail boring, but if it’s your first hike in the Rockies like it was for me, everything is different and spectacular!
I reached the top where my girlfriend was waiting in one hour and a half and I found a ridiculously beautiful view of the Banff valley!
In fact, you don’t get to the real Suplhur Mountain summit. When you get to the upper gondola terminal, you have can go to the Cosmic Ray station, where you’ll find your way into the crowd that took the gondolas.
Everything is well fitted out there with wooded sidewalk for anyone who wants to walk on the ridge of the mountain. You can also get warm inside the gondola terminal too. Noted that in winter, the gondola ride down is free.
That day, I decided to run all the way down which took me 21 minutes. I arrived at the parking lot almost at the same time of my girlfriend who took the gondola. We ended the day by getting a swim in the Banff Upper Hot Spring located just beside the parking lot.
